NEET (The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test)

About NEET

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test or NEET is the country’s sole medical entrance examination, through which all medical colleges, run by the central and state governments, as well as private institutions and minority institutions, will admit students. As per a Supreme Courts directive in 2016, NEET has replaced the All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT) as well as all state level medical entrance tests and will now enable admission to all government, private and deemed medical and dental colleges/universities across the country.

NEET 2019 will be conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in a pen and paper based mode on the first Sunday of May 2019, tentatively. The NEET 2019 Application form will be available from the second week of December 2018, while the last date to submit the application form (without late fee) is First week of January 2019.

NEET Eligibility for 2019
  • The candidate must have completed 17 years of age as or on December 31, 2019
  • The candidate must have passed class 12th examination with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate, and must have passed in the subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English individually.
  • In respect of the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC categories, the marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology taken together in HSC examination is 40% marks.
  • The candidate applying for NEET must be an Indian citizen.
  • The upper age limit for candidates seeking admission through NEET is 25 years as or on December 31, 2019. Further, for the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Categories there is a relaxation of 5 years.
  • Candidates failing to meet the above mentioned criteria shall not permitted to apply for NEET 2019.

The exam covers the topics from Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology. Candidates appearing for NEET shall prepare thoroughly in order to secure a good score.

The NEET Exam duration 3 hours. Each correct answer attracts 4 marks and 1 mark is deducted for each wrong answer. For every unanswered question, marks are neither be awarded nor be deducted.
